Canmore, half-way between Calgary and Banff, is an outdoor recreation mecca, popular for mountain biking, bouldering, peak bagging, skiing and of course running & trail running. It’s a good spot to visit in itself, or to break up the drive with a run.
The Government of Alberta acquired 3,246 acres of ranch land 30 miles northwest of Calgary from the Harvie Family in 2006 to be developed as the Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park. The park has over 15 miles of trails. They are a combination of asphalt and dirt are clearly marked and offer a variety of options for loop or out-and-back runs. While you run you are sure to enjoy gorgeous views of the snow-covered Rocky Mountains, the Calgary skyline, and an active ranch with cows and horses.
Situated in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, Bragg Creek is a charming hamlet retaining all the quaint character of the past. Bragg Creek Park is about 30 minutes west of downtown Calgary and is known as the gateway to Kananaskis Country. There’s an extensive trail network with many options. Some are focused on X-C skiing in winter.
Douglas Fir Trail is a 4.3 kilometer moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Calgary, Alberta, Canada that features a river and is rated as moderate. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible year-round. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
Glenmore Reservoir Trail is a 15.3 kilometer heavily trafficked loop trail located near Calgary, Alberta, Canada that features a lake and is good for all skill levels. The trail offers a number of activity options and is best used from March until October. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
